So You Think You Can Swim

When life gives you a 15 month old who thinks she can swim, you put water wings on her and you throw her in the pool. And if she seems slightly distressed, don't worry, because it's nothing compared the distress she feels when you're trying to, heaven forbid, hold her or keep her from drowning.

Road Trip Bling

Every good road trip includes a dollar store prize bag for entertainment. If we're lucky, they last till Tupelo.

(Early) Breakfast with Madeline

Left the table for a minute and Madeline had relegated her cereal bar to a drawer in the table and decorated a donut. It's nice when children do amusing things to make up for a sleepless night and an early get-up.

A Bit of Coaxing and a Thank You

Madeline's first clear communication has been 'thank you.' And it's pretty endearing. Especially when she does it with no prompting, which she often does. But not in this video. Oh well. At least I can watch it years from now and remember how sweet it was.

More Fourth, for Posterity

The Fourth in Arkansas is mainly about eating, sleeping, and fishing. Cousin Sarah beat the boys (by all accounts, but heaven knows I certainly wasn't there), by catching dozens of fish. My brother caught 1 fish the first day and about 14 the second day, so the fishing was covered. The little girls took care of the sleeping. And Lyndi and I pretty much held down the eating corner. We do what we can.

Two notes for posterity. First, this was the year that the Sugg clan fireworks absolutely beat the pants off of our down-river neighbors. Also, Meredith participated in the much-lauded Dance of the Sparklers. This is a big rite of passage, performed by females age 4-40ish (I have to leave myself room) and requiring untold grace and elegance. Untold, so you have to trust me. We're proud of you, Mer. You're going to be just fine in this world.

The Fourth

It was a very good fourth. And now we shall see if there is any pleasure to be found in blogging from one's phone.
